Q&A for Sussex Weddings mag-issue 22
Q-My lips are fairly narrow and I would like them to look plump and gorgeous on my big day. I’m certainly not going to have any kind of surgery, so how can I make my lips look their best naturally?
A-I often come across this in my job and it can be easily concealed without the need for any type of surgery by the application of make up in the correct way. You are not alone and most people wish they had bigger, sexier lips!
Firstly, if you are using a dark colour-such as berries or reds on your lips, this will immediately bring attention to them and highlight the fact that they are narrow, likewise if you use a colour that is too light the lips will seem to disappear, because there won’t be enough area to cover to make an impact.
The first thing you need to do is to use some sort of lip primer or to cover them with foundation which ensures you get off to a good start! Next use a lip liner but instead of following the line of the lip-as you would do normally-draw the line just above the natural lip line-this has now given you a larger area to work with! Now smudge this line, just enough to soften it-this will take any hardness away. Next, I colour in the whole lip area with the liner, this stains the lips and helps your colour last longer. Now you are ready to apply your chosen lip colour-I would suggest using (obviously depending on your skin tone, colour theme, etc) shades containing pink tones. I find it works best to apply one coat, then blot and apply a final coat. Adding a little gloss to the centre of the lips can give the appearance of having fuller lips.

My expert beauty panel Q&A for Your Sussex Wedding magazine Sept 09 edition
Q I have quite a few freckles on my face and while I normally quite like them I'm wondering if I should cover them up on my wedding day. What do you think, and if yes what are the best cover-up products?
A Thanks for your question-the first thing I notice is that you say you normally like your freckles, so I am guessing they aren't something you would usually cover up and that you are probably quite 'comfortable' with them day to day? If this is the case I wouldn't recommend that you try to disguise them at all but that you work with them instead. People, including your new hubby will be used to seeing your freckles and that is part of why he loves you and is what makes you 'you'!
Whilst every bride wants to feel special on her big day, it is also about remembering who you are and being comfortable with yourself-you will have a lifetime to look back on your wedding photos and it is so important that you make the right decision for you regarding this.
Freckles can be a very prominent facial feature, which I personally find very endearing-they can really bring your personality to life. I think out of all the brides I have worked with, there must be only a couple that have said they like their freckles but all chose not to camouflage them on their wedding day.
What kind of foundation do you use, if any? For someone like yourself, I would normally recommend something such as a tinted moisturiser if you have a good complexion-this will give you a very sheer coverage, whilst allowing your freckles to show, therefore maintaining a natural look. If you require slightly more coverage choose a light foundation which will disguise your freckles a little more, but cover up any blemishes, for a full coverage I would recommend using a medium to heavy foundation, which will of course blot out your freckles altogether but if they are still something you feel you would like to be seen, you can always draw some back in using a light eye pencil. Hope this helps!

New service I am able to offer you...
Turn back Time with the Natural Face Lift Massage
My name is Claire Ritchie and I am a qualified practitioner of the Natural Face Lift Massage, a natural, pain free alternative to cosmetic surgery.
The massage works on many different levels and involves a variety of techniques and methods drawn from ancient Indian teachings together with more modern day style massage. During a one hour treatment over 90 face and neck muscles are manipulated, acupressure points stimulated and the body’s lymphatic system is eased back into life boosting the immune system and removing toxins. On a surface level the unique massage technique works to literally ‘iron out’ fine lines and wrinkles. The circular movements, smoothing motion and gentle precise finger manipulation releases facial tension and daily stresses that have accumulated over the years and manifested themselves as habitual ‘fixed’ expressions. During times of stress there is a tendency to hold a lot of tension in the face, neck and shoulders. The muscles respond by constricting and thus preventing the free flow of oxygen, energy and essential nutrients that are necessary for skin rejuvenation. The Natural Face Lift Massage works towards unlocking the collagen and elastin fibres of the skins connective tissue so that they can move more freely giving your face the suppleness and flexibility of youth. The muscles are given back the space that they need to relax!
After one session you, and others, will notice a more lifted, line free, vibrant and glowing complexion. Facial features will have become more defined, muscle tone improved and a reduction in tension related ailments alleviated. When preparing for a special occasion a one off treatment will provide you with the inner confidence that comes from knowing that you are looking and feeling fantastic. In the long term it is recommended that an initial 6-8 week course of weekly sessions are carried out followed by monthly maintenance sessions once optimum skin condition has been achieved.
A much personalised treatment, the principle of the massage aims to work in harmony with your existing body rather than trying to change it. Therefore treatment is adapted towards each individual client’s needs. Completely non-invasive the benefits are experienced throughout your entire body improving health, vitality and, equally as important, you will look years younger!
Brides, bridesmaids, mums, aunts and grannies of the bride-maybe you’d like to benefit from a single session? This wonderfully relaxing massage doesn’t require the use of oils or any other products to be used on the skin, therefore any redness or irritation often associated with regular facials is extremely rare. However, the redistribution of the lymphatic system may result in a few blemishes so it is advisable to have your treatment a week before the big day. The treatment also promotes a goods night sleep, something that can be lost in the midst of wedding plans!
I am happy to travel to your home or hotel to carry out this luxurious treatment. An initial one hour session costs £45 with a reduced rate of £40 per session for individual course bookings. Bridal parties can be catered to but please bear in mind that each treatment is individually assessed and lasts for one hour. Realistically 3 or 4 sessions are the maximum for such occasions to allow for a full skin analysis without compromise. Please ask for details.
For further information I can be contacted by email at: claire-ritchie@hotmail.co.uk or on 07783264462. I will be working alongside Caroline covering the Sussex area and will be taking bookings from the end of May.

I am really pleased with how my year is panning out so far with work-I seem to have had a record number of enquiries and bookings and we are only in March...
Had a phonecall from 'Your Sussex wedding' magazine the other day, they asked if I would like to go on their 'expert panel' for hair and make up-I said 'Yes please'-what fun :-)
Have bought a new wrinkle and line filler for this season by Christian Dior-again very impressed with it's performance.
I have a friend who is going to be qualified very soon and will be able to offer a non-surgical lifting facial-this will be an hours appointment and she will be coming out with me on wedding days when required so, should you, your bridesmaids or mum want this fantastic treatment before the wedding please let me know. Special discounts will be offered. Make up can be applied after.
